Region 9 GCS annual Golf and Trade Show 2005

The Region 9 GCS annual Golf and Trade Show was held November 16 through 18th at Ventura Beach, California. High winds and a brush fire did not dampen interest as the event was well attended.

The Players

Friday a wood shaft Scramble was held which attracted eight teams of four with seven of the teams breaking par. Three teams scored five under par 67 and USGA formula for ties was used to determine the three places.

  • 1st: Jimmy Hill, Ed Durphy, Jerry Sherwood and Cori Durphy
  • 2nd Jack Dacier, Derek Swezey, Chris Paul and Roy Postma
  • 3rd Ray Youngdahl, Doug Richards, Les Marquoit and Tom Kronke
  • Accuracy hole: Jake Clark at 8' 9"
  • Long Drive: Tom Kronke at 288yds.

That evening a banquet was attended by 43 members and guests. Director Arlie Morris gave an update on National events and announcing future dates. Long time member Frank Hardison was the after dinner Speaker and his topic was Early GCS History and Collecting which generated much interest and renewed old memories. The evening was culminated with Awards Presentations as well as some Special Awards.

Activity at Saturday's show

The Saturday Trade Show began at 7:00 AM for vendors and members allowed entrance at 8:00 AM with opening for the General Public at 9:00 AM. 24 trade tables stayed quite busy and many locals brought in items for appraisal or sale.

It has been decided to forgo next year's Region 9 Meet because of conflict with National. We are encouraging our members to plan for Las Vegas November 12, 13 and 14th 2006!
