SoHG Profile
I'm a retired Orthopedic Surgeon and was chief of Spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. I am currently CEO of a small company that measures departmental productivity in hospitals. I've been a golfer as long as I can remember, and have been a member of the SoHG for 3 years.
I've been amember of the SoHG EC for just just over a year and am responsible for the web as well as being editor of the emagazine 'Hickory Happenings'.
Most of my 'Standards experience was with the World Wide Web Foundation (the organization that oversees the internet), where I was a member of the advisory council, and Co-Chair of the XHTML working group and editor of the final recomendation. (This is the protocol that powers your web pages.)
I have served in several capacities in various organizations in both the Internet and Medical fields.

* Work Background: I’m a marketing guy that’s served in
postings in New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong & Singapore, before
settling down and starting my own firm in Burlington, VT. I’ve worked
on P&G, Exxon, Hong Kong Tourism, Burger King, Hyatt Hotels, Gatorade,
etc. I now do a mix of international, national and local work. A more
extensive set of bragging can be found here.
* Hickory Stuff: I run the Adirondack Hickory Open, and I
helped set up the Orvis Cup event at the Equinox. I’m now plotting a
Vermont-based venue. I will go to my grave treasuring my 2005 National
Hickory Championship win (OK, OK, so it was just in the Reserve Division
– but hey, it’s something).
* Board Experience: In the past, I’ve served on the boards of
McCann-Erickson in Tokyo, and Foote Cone & Belding in Asia Pacific and
the Clinton County Historical Association. I currently serve on the
executive board of Vermont National Country Club. |

SoHG Profile
Grew up in Motown, prefer Marvin Gaye's music to all other
.
Didn't start playing golf until I was 35 (why would I want to caddy
at Red Run at 10 when I could play baseball all summer?!!!!!!!!)
Played hickories now for 12-ish years. I collect George Nicoll,
Willie Park and Smith's of Carnoustie clubs and books.
I seem to like to be involved in organizations...currently Membership
Secretary of SoHG - founding member, Vice President of GCS.
Happy to be on the ground floor of a great organization!

President of Louisville Golf Company, one of the last golf companies truly manufacturing golf clubs in the United State, and the last golf company manufacturing persimmon and wooden headed golf clubs.
I started my working life as a school teacher, teaching history and math. After realizing teaching takes a special talent that I did not possess, I went to work for a new golf company (Louisville Golf) in 1976. For the majority of my tenure I was the Plant Manager and assumed the position of President after my brother Elmore's death in 2001. (Hence the name E. Just and Bros. in his honor)
I have always been interested in history, and spent many years involved in muzzleloading/black powder re-enactment. When I was introduced to hickory golf, it was the perfect blend of two of my passions, golf and history.
I was a member of my high school and college golf team being an average player with a handicap of 5 at that time. Now I have the David Duvall / Ian Baker-Finch syndrome and play to a 16.1 index.
I have been involved with golf nearly my entire life having started playing as a 13 year old and working in golf for the past 31 years. I became involved with hickory golf at the 3rd NHC and really became hooked when I played in the 2nd Mid Pines Hickory Open. I am relatively new to hickory golf comparatively having been a member of the GCS for 2 years and the SoHG for only a year.
I absolutely have a passion for hickory golf. |
