CB Macdonald Challenge and Eastern Canadian Hickory Championship
Niagara Golf Course
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Canada
9/7/2012 - 9/9/2012
Tournament Information
These two events, begun in 2003, are played simultaneously on the historic Niagara Golf Course – the oldest golf course in North America still on its original site. The location is Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. This is one of the four “Gutty Slam” events. Both pre-1900 and post-1900 equipment (clubs and balls) are used. The C. B. Macdonald Challenge is individual USA vs. Canada matches. The Eastern Canadian Hickory Championship is a medal play event. Day One employs 1890’s equipment with a replica gutty ball. Two partners play nine holes of foursomes – true alternate shot (only one drive and partners alternate tee shots). Format is match play. After nine holes, teams play better ball versus their opponents and also begin the 27-hole Eastern Canada medal play event. Day Two is comprised of 18-hole medal play matches using 1920’s clubs and the replica mesh ball. The entry fee for 2012 is $260. SoHG equipment guidelines. Divisions include Open (59 and under), Senior (60 to 69) and Super-Senior (70 and older). Lunch is served after each tournament round. Evening dining opportunities will be planned by the committee. Area attractions include the Shaw Festival Theatre, a casino, Niagara Falls attractions / museums, winery tours. Toronto and its tourist sites are an hour’s drive away.
Keep an eye on this spot. As more details are formalized – including registration information/forms – they will be posted here.
