Downers Grove Golf Course
Chicago, Ill. USA
5/18/2012 - 5/19/2012
Tournament Information
This is the first event on the calendar in the "Gutty Slam." (The other three are the National Hickory Open, the Foxburg Hickory Championship, and the CB Macdonald.) This event is a pre-1900 golf tournament to be hosted by Downers Grove Golf Course near Chicago. This course was built by CB MacDonald in 1892 for the Chicago Golf Club and expanded in 1893 to become the first 18-hole golf course in the United States. The golf course is excellently preserved with seven of the nine original greens. Fee is $110. All divisions will be required to use a McIntyre gutta percha golf ball (available at $10 each). Four divisions - Open (pre-1900 clubs, walking only, no golf bags, long nose clubs replicas or vintage are preferred but exceptions will be made for pre-1900 wood clubs); Reserve and Senior Divisions; and a four-man scramble division. The trophy is a sterling silver replica of an 1870 William Park long nose putter. All hotel reservations will be made by the tournament. Organizers expect to again arrange special room rates of $100 per night at the Double Tree of Downers Grove. Players are encouraged to share a room as they are quite large.
